Taking/capturing/shooting... loaded language, especially when photographing people in public spaces. Is it stealing a bit of someone's soul? Is it infringing on someone's privacy? Is the photographer going to get punched because they pointed their camera towards a child? Ask permission before or after taking the photo?
It takes a certain amount of nerve to boldly photograph people candidly. The photographer wants to be quick and unobstrusive but also take the time to get the best possible image. Although a bit of camera shake blurring sometimes adds to the sense of urgency.
